Morning in Memmelsdorf

Today Ann-Marie and I went out searching for a backerei that was open on Sunday. We found one at the bahnhof (train station). We got some brotchen and headed out to Memmelsdorf to the lovely Seehof Schloss, which is just a few minutes drive from where we live. We spent the morning walking around the grounds and ate our bread.
The photos do not reflect how gorgeous the grounds are. There was a large maze type area formed with carefully trimmed bushes, a big lake in the back with several statue islands, areas for walking, benches to sit and a really lovely fountain. This is very near to our house. We have been here before in the winter with Ann-Marie's kindergarten (you may remember the photos of the lanterns and the kindergarten teachers performing a play?) We did not go very far inside the castle, but went far enough to notice that it is open in the middle there is a court yard garden area with a fountain that is open to the outside. There is a museum, but we didn't go through that because I wasn't sure if I had enough Euro.

A few hours in Wurzburg

Wurzburg is about one hour away from Bamberg. We have been there multiple times but had never went to the downtown area. We had only went to the Army post there. (There is a nice PX there and that is where I have went many times at the American hospital there for training, etc).

So, anyway, today we decided to walk around downtown Wurzburg. We didn't have any trouble getting downtown...just followed the signs that said "Centrum" and found a parking lot. Then got out and started walking around. Below are a few photos that we took of our day.

Another Dom in Wurzburg. It was beautiful, just like all the other churches we've been in over here are beautiful. We walked around inside here for several minutes. The photo does not do it justice at all. Posted by Picasa

We walked along next to the river Main. You see that Jake has a bag in his hand. He bought a strange incense burner at an international store. The clerk said it was from Indonesia (the incense burner). We also bought some spices from an outdoor market vendor and some 'Schneeballs" which are sort of like a pastry rolled into a big ball and covered with powdered sugar.  Posted by Picasa

Many beautiful buildings in Wurzburg. There were many pedestrian only zones, with stores for shopping, vendors everywhere and restaurants and farmers markets. We had lunch nearby. We sat outside even though it was still pretty cold. Everyone was enjoying the scattered sunshine today. Posted by Picasa

I think this is the official 'Residence' at Wurzburg. The bridge that you see in the foreground is gorgeous and has sculptures (of religious icons) lining both sides of the bridge that you walk across. Posted by Picasa
